Picture it! You’re putting your makeup on at 6am hoping it will last until the end of this long day not even knowing tears will happen today.
My daughter is an aspiring ballerina. We’ve been to LOTS of ballet practices, recitals, auditions, etc. This past weekend, we were in Chicago for an audition. For us, that meant getting up at the crack of dawn to get ready and driving for 2 hours to get there. So off we went – ready to brave Chicago and the scrutiny of ballet judges.
The day went off without a hitch, surprisingly enough! Until we had to find the parked car. What you need to know about me is that I’m not good with directions. Not on a map. Not on a GPS. Not any directions. Ever. When we parked, I had tagged my parking location on Google maps thinking it would be my solution, my worry-free path to follow. Nope.
Walking from the parking structure to the ballet school, my eyeballs were permanently glued to the screen directing me. My plan was to do the same when we left the school. But on the way back after auditions were over, it kept turning me in circles. My daughter verbally noted that we had been at this intersection already, maybe twice. lol! All told, we ended up walking around for an hour and a half trying to find our parking spot. At one point, I really thought we’d never see the van again! I kept it together until I talked to my husband and that’s when the floodgates opened and the tears rained down. And then my daughter started crying – we were quite the sight!
You can probably tell that we did, indeed, find the van – we might have kissed it. When I looked in the mirror, I expected to find a hot mess with only streaks left of the Sheer Minerals makeup I had applied so many hours earlier. Now, I’m not a photographer and I’m not a model but that isn’t the point of these photos. I literally almost can’t believe how well my makeup held up after all that! The lipstick is gone but I had only done a quick swipe of lipstick with a bit of lip gloss over it so that wasn’t surprising. It’s the mascara and eye makeup that got me – still perfectly in place. I shot a quick video about our Travel Face Care Kit right before I was going to give it away as a gift to a friend and I thought I would share it here on the blog as well! (Yes, I know I’m not holding the phone the right way – my teenagers quickly educated me with proper video-taking tips. 🙂 But when inspiration strikes AND the kids are all quiet, you gotta just go with it!)
This kit contains everything you or your gift receiver could need to take great care of your face for about two weeks – definitely long enough to fall in love with these awesome products!
First up is the travel size Cleansing Gel for Normal to Dry Skin. This is the cleanser I use on my own face most often. I love how gentle it is and that it smells amazing. I apply it to my face with my fingertips while my skin is wet, then I massage and exfoliate with a wet boucle and then I go back with the soap that’s still left on my fingertips for one more quick all-over scrub before rinsing off. Ingredients include: Aloe Vera Gel, Coconut Oil Olefin, Coconut Oil Betaine, Lemon Extract, Avocado Oil, Grapefruit Seed Extract, Food Grade Potassium Sorbate, Vitamins A, C (Citric Acid) and E (Tocopherol), Calendula Extract, Essential Oils of Juniper, Cypress, Cedar Wood, Frankincense, Neroli, Jasmine, Rosemary, Geranium, Rose, Sandalwood, Lavender, Basil, Chamomile, and Cardamom. Then I use the Hydrating Facial Polish with Pomegranate and Seaberry Seed Extract. I massage with this while my face is still wet. My favorite part is that it is exfoliating your skin without being too rough. It rinses off very easily and then I lightly dry my face. This product reminds me of one of my favorite things about LGS – it used to be much more fragrant because it included a synthetic, safe fragrance which was still paraben-free, phthalate-free and formaldehyde-free. But because it was still synthetic, LGS made the decision to eliminate it from the product line. I love that they did this and makes me feel even better about using the products! Ingredients include: aqua (water), simmondsia chinensis (jojoba) beads, caprylic/capric triglyceride, aloe barbadensis (aloe vera) gel, vitis vinifera (grape) seed oil, hydrogenated sunflower seed oil polyglyceryl-3 esters, hydrogenated sunflower seed oil glyceryl esters, cetearyl alcohol, sodium stearoyl lactylate, behentrimonium methosulfate, stearic acid, vegetable glycerin, simmondsia chinensis (jojoba) oil, rubus idaeus (raspberry) seed extract, hippophae rhamnoides (sea buckthorn/seaberry) fruit extract, punica granatum (pomegranate) seed extract, calendula officinalis (pot marigold) oil, tocopherol (vitamin E), phenoxyethanol, caprylyl glycol Vegan, Nut Free
About once a week, I use the Hydrating Facial Mask with Pomegranate and Seaberry Extract. This is definitely not one of those harsh masks that dry on your face and then rip them off, possibly injuring your skin. All the necessary exfoliating work was already done with the facial polish so you don’t have to include that in your skin care. The Kaolin Clay can make this a little slippery but I work it around in my hand first and it goes on very smooth and creamy. Let this one sit for a few minutes so the clay can draw out impurities while the other ingredients hydrate. I add a little bit more cleansing gel to my hands to get the mask all the way off. Ingredients included: aqua (water), butyrospermum parkii (shea butter), kaolin, hydrogenated sunflower seed oil polyglyceryl-3 esters, hydrogenated sunflower seed oil glyceryl esters, cetearyl alcohol, sodium stearoyl lactylate, olea europaea (olive) oil, stearic acid, tocopherol (vitamin E), allantoin, hippophae rhamnoides (sea buckthorn/seaberry) extract, punica granatum (pomegranate) seed extract, phenoxyethanol, caprylyl glycol Vegan, Nut Free, Aloe Free
Next is the Hydrating Eye Creme with Cucumber Extract. No more trying to balance cucumber slices on your eyes! I can get that same tightening effect with the cucumber extract. This eye creme can also be used to help remove eye makeup – love it when a product does double duty. The eye creme is formulated to be a bit richer than the other moisturizers to really pamper that delicate eye skin. Ingredients included: Aloe Vera Juice, Cucumber Extract, Olive Oil, Jojoba Oil, Shea Butter, Sunflower Seed Extract, Vegetable Glycerin, Evening Primrose Oil, Rosehip Oil, Emulsifying Vegetable Wax, Corn Starch, Vitamin E Oil, Red Raspberry Extract, Gluconolactone and Sodium Benzoate as a preservative
And lastly, is the Face Creme with Botanicals. This moisturizer is so light and creamy, I use it throughout the day when I’m not wearing makeup, especially in these Wisconsin winters. I take the opportunity to give myself a great facial massage while applying it. Ingredients included: distilled water, (aloe barbadensis) aloe vera gel, emulsifying wax, vegetable glycerin, emulsifying conditioner, (olea europea) olive butter, (mangifera indica) mango butter, (simmondsia chinensis) jojoba oil, allantoin, (oenothera biennis) evening primrose oil, (tocopherol) vitamin E oil, botanical complex, (lavandula angustifolia) bulgarian lavender, (pelargonium graveolens) rose geranium, (daucus carota) carrot seed oil, pomegranate seed extract, phenoxyethanol and caprylyl glycol (optiphen) Coconut Free, Vegan, Nut Free
