Picture it! You’re putting your makeup on at 6am hoping it will last until the end of this long day not even knowing tears will happen today.
My daughter is an aspiring ballerina. We’ve been to LOTS of ballet practices, recitals, auditions, etc. This past weekend, we were in Chicago for an audition. For us, that meant getting up at the crack of dawn to get ready and driving for 2 hours to get there. So off we went – ready to brave Chicago and the scrutiny of ballet judges.
The day went off without a hitch, surprisingly enough! Until we had to find the parked car. What you need to know about me is that I’m not good with directions. Not on a map. Not on a GPS. Not any directions. Ever. When we parked, I had tagged my parking location on Google maps thinking it would be my solution, my worry-free path to follow. Nope.
Walking from the parking structure to the ballet school, my eyeballs were permanently glued to the screen directing me. My plan was to do the same when we left the school. But on the way back after auditions were over, it kept turning me in circles. My daughter verbally noted that we had been at this intersection already, maybe twice. lol! All told, we ended up walking around for an hour and a half trying to find our parking spot. At one point, I really thought we’d never see the van again! I kept it together until I talked to my husband and that’s when the floodgates opened and the tears rained down. And then my daughter started crying – we were quite the sight!
You can probably tell that we did, indeed, find the van – we might have kissed it. When I looked in the mirror, I expected to find a hot mess with only streaks left of the Sheer Minerals makeup I had applied so many hours earlier. Now, I’m not a photographer and I’m not a model but that isn’t the point of these photos. I literally almost can’t believe how well my makeup held up after all that! The lipstick is gone but I had only done a quick swipe of lipstick with a bit of lip gloss over it so that wasn’t surprising. It’s the mascara and eye makeup that got me – still perfectly in place.
